Grow Your Own Christmas Dinner

It’s what having our little lottie plot is all about.  From day one we said we want to grow veg that you would find on our Christmas dinner plate.  I have to say this year was even more successful than I’d hoped 🙂  Last year we had sprouts and a cabbage, but this year…

Walking to the plot on Christmas morning

We weren’t very confident the carrots would grow at all, we put them in too late.  To our surprise we had little sweet carrots and the bunnies had some too – including the tops 🙂digging for carrotsChuffed with the little carrotsSmall but tastyTasty Tiny CarrotsLittle Jassy looking rather snazzy in her christmas jumper 🙂

Waiting, waiting waiting

I’m pretty sure that parsnips aren’t supposed to look like mutant octopus aliens… however they tasted lovely and sweet, we even used our lottie honey that our bees had kindly made for us 🙂 perfecto!

I used our new hessian veg sacks that our neighbours got us for christmas.  They are so thoughtful!Lottie Land Girl KazI can’t believe it’s been a week since Christmas, it goes so fast.  We had a really great time and I can’t wait till next year when hopefully we can add potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli to the list of our home grown veggies.

I hope you all had a lovely christmas, here’s to a great growing year in 2014!  🙂

  1. Well done you. We were away for Christmas, so I had the excuse of not needing to have successful Christmas dinner crops. The few parsnips we grew are awaiting a good frost to sweeten them up and we’ve already eaten all of our spuds in storage. Gave sprouts a miss due to failing with them last year. Perhaps next year …

    • It’s really exciting when you go to collect your veg for christmas 🙂 and they taste marvellous 🙂 our parsnips looked a bit strange but tasted lovely 🙂 have a og you’ll love it!
