RSPB Garden Bird Watch

Bird Wating Weekend by Lottie Land Girl

Last weekend I took part in the Big Garden Bird Watch. Β I had such a nice relaxing hour gazing out of the window with a cup of tea and some choccie biscuits. On the Friday evening, I made some seed cakes in preparation, and hung them in the tree at the bottom of the garden… a treat for any little feathered friends who may pay a visit to our garden πŸ˜€

The weather was particularly wild, so I didn’t expect to see many birds, however, I was in luck… πŸ™‚

During my hour, I had spotted 2 males and 1 female black bird, a robin, a couple of blue tits and a coal tit. Β I then filled in the info and sent it off to the RSPB. Β RSPB Results By Lottie Land Girl

Here my new friend Burt. Β He’s taken to sitting on our garden fence and watching me hard at work. Β It’s great having my creative corner by the window – giving my eyes a rest from the screen, I peer out and see who will be coming to visit next πŸ™‚Woodpigeon In The Sun by Lottie Land GirlI thought The Big Garden Bird Watch was a great experience. It’s made me want to take time out of my busy life,Β have a break from technology and just sit and watch what’s happening in the garden πŸ˜€ Did you take part in the bird watch? Who came to visit? πŸ™‚

    • That’s great πŸ™‚ I’ve not seen any squirrels you know? Strange we usually get them wen I put bits to eat in the garden! I don’t think the other plot holders would be happy about me enticing birds to the plot :/ although it would be so nice to have them around. People out anything they can up to deter them from eating the fruit bushes! It’s great you have them on your plot πŸ™‚

  1. I always look forward to the Big Garden Birdwatch. The weather was absolutely dire in the morning so I did my watch later on. I have a feeder right next to the veg/fruit patch but I don’t suffer that many losses due to the birds. I suspect this year to be different after typing that!

    • Oh I wouldn’t think so πŸ™‚ I might look at putting something on the lottie it would be lovely to have them there too, we’re quite exposed where we are and don’t have many trees so they might be a bit scared to visit… We will see πŸ˜‰

      • Good for you, and enjoy.
Are you aware that porridge oats is probably the best, and generally cheap, all-round garden bird food. Mix it in with the seed and some crushed peanuts. xx

      • Hey what a great idea! πŸ˜€ I’ve got some porridge oats (I’m more of a Read Brek gal myself!) I got them by mistake, I think I might make some more cakes and fill up my terracotta pots I’ve got handing in the tree! Thanks for the tips πŸ˜€ xx
